In comparing his love of the two cities of Venice and Jerusalem, Chihuly cited the dominance of stone as a building material. After a recent visit to ancient Petra (Chihuly was there in 1963) I better understand his love of stone and respect for the grand gesture. The images below are of the gorge and the first views of the famous "Treasury," carved from the living rock.
